What’s the Latest at County Grounds Park?
Please join us for the last evening program of the 2024–2025 club year. On Tuesday, February 18, at 7 PM, Jonathan Piel will give a presentation on the history and development of County Grounds Park.
Jonathan is president of Friends of County Grounds Park and helps champion the preservation of the park by connecting people with its rich past as a historic place of healing for Milwaukee County’s mentally ill, using first-hand accounts from historical administrators and patients from the 1860s forward. The presentation will include many historic photos, maps, and 1950 film clips to tell the stories about daily life, diving rafts, and dolphins. You’ll never look at Wauwatosa’s County Grounds Park, Sanctuary Woods, or compassionate mental healthcare the same way again.
